Hours and Location

In May 2022, the Society announced reduced opening because of a volunteer shortage. It advised people not to make a long or special trip without confirming that the library was open. It also said visits outside the reduced schedule depended on whether a staff member was available.

The notice asked visitors to allow enough time for a volunteer to return a message and arrange an appointment. It distinguished routine access from visits on other days, which depended on staff availability. It also tied winter closure decisions to unsafe road conditions rather than a fixed seasonal schedule.

The page explained that the library closed for holidays and when winter weather made travel unsafe. It described the library as being in downtown London in a building that had formerly housed the Laurel County Health Department. Parking and an accessible entrance were described as well.

Driving directions

Four sets of driving directions approached the building from north, south, east, and west. They referenced Interstate 75, U.S. 25 or Main Street, the Hal Rogers Parkway, Kentucky Highway 192, Kentucky Highway 80, and streets in downtown London. The page also repeated the organization’s full street address at the end.

Those directions reflected the building and traffic pattern at the time. Street addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, exact operating hours, and appointment instructions are not current visitor guidance. Publishing old directions as if they were current could mislead a traveler.
