Library

The Library page located the Society’s collection in downtown London in a building that had formerly housed a county public office. It described parking at the front and rear and an accessible entrance from the rear parking area.

Most of the page consisted of detailed driving directions. Separate paragraphs guided visitors arriving from the north by one interstate exit, from the south by another exit, from the east by the Hal Rogers Parkway, and from the west through Somerset. A temporary street closure caused by sewer work was also noted.

The Society’s purpose page supplies the context that the short Library page lacked. It said the library contained reference volumes, old photographs, newspapers, microfilm, microfiche, and CD-ROM records. The Society also held donated artifacts, some displayed and others stored while museum space was prepared.

Other pages described transcribed census schedules, marriage books and indexes, cemetery volumes, Mountain Echo excerpts, military references, a guardian bond book, and the Branches of Laurel newsletter. Genealogical research assistance was offered by volunteers, and researchers were asked to bring focused questions and a list of sources already searched.

The street address, route-by-route directions, parking instructions, and temporary road notice are not presented as actionable guidance. They are dated, and the original organization is active on a different official site. Even with those operational details omitted, the page documents why a permanent room mattered. The Society’s institutional history explained that materials had not been readily available when meetings moved among venues. A dedicated library gave the Society space for books, files, photographs, film, and donated objects.
