Publications

The Society introduced several types of publications and linked readers to separate pages for cemetery records, Laurel County census transcripts, Mountain Echo excerpts, and Laurel County marriage books. The page functioned as a purchase catalog and included prices, postage tables, payment directions, and mailing details.

Record transcripts and indexes

The marriage book for the years 1826–1853 was first published in 1986 and revised in 1995. It included the names of the bride, groom, witnesses, and person officiating, as well as the dates a license was obtained and the marriage was performed. Separate marriage indexes for brides and grooms covered 1826–1937.

Cemetery books recorded names, birth and death dates, and other information found on markers. Census books transcribed available Laurel County schedules, with added annotations in the 1850 and 1880 volumes drawn from marriage, cemetery, and other family records. The Mountain Echo excerpts transcribed early local newspaper issues and indexed the names.

County history and military volumes

Pictorial History of WW 2 Veterans of Laurel County was published in 1995 to honor the men and women from Laurel County who served in that war. The description said it included nearly 1,300 photographs of military personnel together with military information. The catalog also listed a History of Laurel County by Kentucky historian Dr. Thomas Clark, published in 1989.

A newer veterans’ book contained the names and gravesite locations of veterans buried in Laurel County who served in the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War, Spanish-American War, and World War I.

Newsletter and guardian book

Branches of Laurel, the Society newsletter, had been published since June 1986. The page described articles on family trees, school censuses, Bible records, newspaper excerpts, church and military records, and other historical and genealogical subjects.

The Guardian Book transcribed the first Laurel County Guardian Bond Book, covering November 1853 through June 1874. It listed guardians, minors, sureties, and bond dates, and included miscellaneous notes that might identify parents. Additional information from court order books was included, and the volume was fully indexed. These descriptions document the former catalog and do not represent current inventory or an offer to sell.
